Looe Cornwall Busy Regatta days, oil painting n panel 690 x 320mm.

The busy fishing and tourist town of Looe in Cornwall hosts a popular Looe Luggers Regatta every two years when the traditional two masted boats. Many of these boats are restored and over one hundred years old. They compete over a two day period. These luggers were the fishing vessels of their day. The speed and manoeuvrability of these luggers made them ideal for smuggling  in the 18^th and 19^th century.

Up to fifty traditional vessels, with their rigging and colourful sails either, alongside, on the river, or in the bay, over the two days, creating a spectacle that draws the crowds from far and wide.

The idea for this colourful oil painting was to illustrate some of the activities in and around the harbour during the regatta. It also shows people enjoying the beach and its activities. . The greenish water reflects the fact that the tide is fairly low, revealing the sand below the surface. For Sale with the frame as shown.
