The scene shows part of the harbour looking towards the RNLI Lifeboat Station and the Cobb Arms. People are seen walking along the Cobb.

The Cobb is the famous Lyme Regis breakwater, the start of which can be seen on the left of the painting with the people walking along it, past the RNLI Lifeboat Station. It features in Jane Austins novel Persuasion and in more recent past in the film adaptation of The French Lieutenant’s Woman form the novel of the same name by the late author, John Fowles, who lived in Lyme Regis.
