Dorset Paintings

by | Jul 3, 2024 | Blog | 0 comments

There have been two trips to Dorset in recent years that have inspired a number of my painting. Large numbers of reference photographs were taken of Weymouth, Lulworth Cove, Portland Bill and Chesil Beach, which up to now has resulted in two oil paintings, one watercolour and one pastel painting.

The most notable work to come out of these two visits to Dorset is my oil painting of Weymouth Old Harbour, which started my – relationship with Gibsons Jigsaw Puzzles. They approached me about my work and decided to use the Weymouth artwork for one of their 636 piece jigsaws.

The Cobb is the famous Lyme Regis breakwater, the start of which can be seen on the left of the painting with the people walking along it, past the RNLI Lifeboat Station. It features in Jane Austins novel Persuasion and in more recent past in the film adaptation of The French Lieutenant’s Woman form the novel of the same name by the late author, John Fowles, who lived in Lyme Regis.
