Gas Street Basin, Birmingham In Autumn. Framed Poster based on an original oil painting Roger Turner. Since the largest major city that is closest to where I live is Birmingham, I thought that it was about time that I made the effort to create a painting that reflects some of the new and old features that make up the growing heart of the city. ‘Gas Street Basin, Birmingham In Autumn’ is my first effort.
Gas Street Basin is where the Worcester and Birmingham Canals come together in the centre of the city to meet the Birmingham Canal Navigation Main Line. The area was significantly run down in the 1970’s/80’s. Redevelopment which started in the 1990’s has transformed the basin and surrounding areas, creating a juxtaposition of Midlands industrial heritage, buildings, narrow boats and the modern city that has grown up around it. It is now an area of leisure and entertainment, with pubs, shops and restaurants along the towpath and the route of the canal, with short canal boat cruises offered to the passers by and tourists.
These wooden framed posters are the perfect combination of sleek and sturdy. Heavier-weight, white, premium matte paper has a natural, smooth uncoated finish that feels luxurious to the touch. Each poster and frame is shipped in robust packaging, ensuring it arrives in pristine condition. Paper sizes may vary slightly by region. For the US and Canada, the measurement is in inches, while for the rest of the world, it is in centimetres.
